small miracles
Feb. 23rd, 2011 09:35 amSo...About a year ago, my dad was working with this guy who bought this truckload of guitars or something after it crashed...or something. I don't much care.
Me and my sister have been going on this, 'I wanna learn how to play guitar' kick for a while, but just talked amongst ourselves about it. She even when as far as to go to this with her friend-boy, to hear her tell it, magical guitar shop with rows upon rows of guitars on racks, hanging from the ceiling, glued to the wall, yada yada. It was like a whole new world. She comes home rambling onto me about it, practically vibrating she's so hyped up.
"I wanna guitar."
"You wanna guitar?"
"Let's get guitars!"
She's talkin' stands and cases and the whole she-bang. Thing though: who has money for that shiz, right? Now, she's the oldest, there's a brother in the middle, then me. (One of us is MIA, but we won't go there.) I'm the baby, the good one, and very proudly spoiled, to a degree. I don't have money, I want something, I tell Daddy.
She rolls her eyes, all 'Pshaw' (she didn't say that.) Like Dad's gonna do something. Here's where it ties in to that first part. My dad's buddy's been giving these things away. For free. Dad's all, 'Oh, I can ask him about it. He might give me one.' We're super-giddy and tell him to get two. This was Thursday, week past.
Friday, goes to work, forgets about the guitars. Sad face, disappointment, get over it.
Tuesday, yesterday, he brings home two Rogue guitars -broad base, I believe they're called- two cases, three picks, two stands, and an instructional book and DVD.
To which I say, 'Coolness!'
And this is just another point for me to tell my sister she should talk to our dad more. To which she said, 'Once a year is enough.' She's kidding though; they talk more than that.
I'd call this coincidence, but I don't believe in that. A small miracle. God parted the Red Sea for Moses; gave Abraham a son (when he was, like, half-dead); virgin conception; wrecked a truck to give me and my sister guitar stuff.
Coolness!
AND, the best part: it's a Rogue guitar. Like X Men. And I'm just enough of an X Men geek to appreciate that. I wonder if there's anything involving guitars related to Gambit...
