Summary: A detour aboard ship
OUTSIDE – DECK OF SOUTHERN WATER TRIBE CUTTER SHIP – NEAR SUNSET
Five similar ships sail in the background, with blue sails and a wooden hull.
JUNE and TEKOA stand aft of the ship, their hands pushing and pulling through air, waterbending the fleet faster through the water. She is dressed in all black. He is wearing the dark blue of the Northern Water Tribe. The sails are snapped full into the wind. The wind pulls at the clothes and hair.
Bato consults a nautical map, nailed down to a table abaft. Captain HAKODA stands fore of the ship, spyglass raised as he scans the horizon. Whale tooth clubs and machetes rest on their hips. They were the light blue of the Southern Water Tribe.
HAKODA grins and lowers the spyglass. He turns around to the others.
HAKODA
(sharply)
Hold!
Bato looks toward the captain. TEKOA drops flat onto the deck, spread eagle and panting.
TEKOA
(yelling)
Finally!
JUNE ignores him, sweeping her black, glossy hair out of her face.
JUNE
Why are we slowing down? We could do this all day.
TEKOA
(muttering)
Speak for yourself.
HAKODA strides confidently across the deck toward her to hand her the spyglass. He points toward the horizon where he’d been watching before. JUNE followed the gesture with the spyglass raised to her eye.
HAKODA
(conspiratorially)
How would you like to raid a Fire Nation supply ship?
JUNE slowly lowers the spyglass, excitement spreading over her face. TEKOA sits up and groans aloud when he sees her face.
TEKOA
(urgently)
Bad idea! Bad idea!
JUNE
(sarcastically)
Definitely maybe.
JUNE looks at him with false sympathy then smiles wickedly.
But it’ll be fun too. (CONT’D)
JUNE winks as TEKOA flops helplessly back to the deck, whimpering.
TEKOA
We're going to almost die again, aren't we?
JUNE
(satisfied)
Yeah, we are.
