Title: Must Love Idiots
prompt: I'm here
Word Count: 412
Rating: k
Original/fandom: Avatar the Last Airbender
Pairings: Toph/Sokka
Warnings: nope
Summary: She's supposed to be the blind one.

What does a girl have to do to get a guy’s attention around here? I mean, come on! I know he’s an idiot – it’s what attracted me to him in the first place – but come on!

If everyone knows I show affection by punching their shoulder, and one particular boy’s shoulder is just one, giant bruise, shouldn’t he have a frickin’ clue?

I have almost drowned, giving him the perfect – and only – chance to have me as a damsel in distress. Guys like that, right? To be a hero? I didn’t do that on purpose or anything because I’m not psychotic…in that way at least. But does he save me? Oh, no. That idiot lets Suki – the one girl in the world I wouldn’t mind burying alive – save me.

And I kissed Suki. SHUT UP! It was supposed to be Sokka! My first kiss was with a girl. And no, I didn’t like it. That paint on her face tastes weird.

But how am I even supposed to compete with that? I’m thirteen, short, flat, and helluva intimidating. She is sixteen, ‘willowy’ as Katara put it, curvy, and, I guess, a good fighter

Man. I can’t deal with this. I mean, I could, but my first idea of ‘dealing’ with it is to brain someone with a rock. So I’m not going to deal with this.

It’s not like there’s anything I can ask about this kind of thing, you know. Well, okay, there’s Katara and Aang, but they are gross. Flat out, disgustingly, make-me-throw-up gross. I will sooner ask my parents before I ask either of those two.

Then there’s Mai and Zuko but…it’s Mai and Zuko. Those two pretty much knew that they belonged to each other since their conception or something. Although, asking Zuko how he knew he was in love with Mai while she’s standing right there…yeah, that’d be hilarious.

Oh. How could I forget? Uncle is, like, the love guru. Well, he’s more like the Tea Guru, but he does seem to have a lot of lady friends, as he likes to call them. If Uncle can’t help me, no one can. And if he can’t then…

Then I’m going to stomp Sokka into the ground.

Then I’ll get over it. And it’ll be easy. Know why? Because I am the greatest Earthbender to ever live, and some oblivious, meat-headed boy isn’t going to change that.

But if Uncle can help me…just get out of my way.

Original/Fandom: Avatar the last Airbende
Pairings (if any): Ursa/Ozai
Warnings (Non-Con/Dub-Con/RPF etc): implied death
Summary: She is the last face he sees.

On a humid night when he is slick with sweat, she comes quietly. There is no great fanfare, and it is all together a private affair. Yet there is no love in the meeting, no exultation that one would expect from a husband and wife after an entire decade.

She sits just in front of him, iron bars the only thing separating them. She is as lovely as he remembers, but he won’t tell her that. Because there’s also a hardness around her eyes that wasn’t there before. As much as is familiar, there are a dozen he doesn’t recognize about her.

Like the calluses on her hands he sees as she prepares tea or the thin, white scar high on her cheek. Those are new, to him at least.

He finds it odd that he doesn’t find it odd that she has sneaked into his cell in the middle of the night to make him tea and hasn’t said a word to him.

She is soon done with the brew and pours a cup. She sets it just inside his cell. He looks between it and her for a moment, but her face gives nothing away. That doesn’t fool him. He picks up the cup, a fine, delicate piece of red porcelain and inhales the scent. It has a cloying smell to it, one he faintly knows.

“Will you go to Zuko after I’m gone?”

“He can stand on his own now. He doesn’t need me.”

“How did I know a question about your darling son would get an answer? If there’s anything you’d like to ask, now would be the time.”

She leans forward, elbow on thigh, chin in hand.

“Was it worth it?”

He chuckles deeply then downs the tea. It burns his tongue, but a bitter taste lingers as it goes down. He gives the cup back to her and smiles mirthlessly.

“For all of five minutes. Ten years of boredom more than pays for it, I think.”

She only shakes her head as she begins to put her supplies in the satchel on her shoulder. He watches her closely and sees the slight tremor in her hands.

“Will you miss me?”

She doesn’t look at him as she answers. “I mourned you long, long ago.”

His head begins to feel light, and he has a sudden sense of vertigo as he watches her stand. She walks to the door and looks back.

“But the man you used to be… I miss him every day.”

Then she pulls her hood up and goes out of the room. His spirit is gone before she reaches the outer door.

“What?”

“What?”

“You’re staring at me. If I’m doing something interesting, I’d like to know what it is.”

“Oh, well. You’re not actually doing anything. I just…your – uh…”

“I think I should be impressed with myself and the fact that I can turn the Avatar in a stuttering, incoherent mass by just being.”

“It’s your hair!” he blurted.

“And now sentences that have nothing to do with the current topic.”

Aang’s palm briefly met his forehead.

“Okay, listen. Katara’s birthday is soon, but I have no idea what to get her and I was trying to think of something but then I saw your hair and how unnaturally shiny it is, and Katara said that she wished she had hair like that one time so I thought maybe I could ask you but I didn’t want to just blurt it out because I wanted to avoid an awkward moment. You know, like the one we just had.”

“One: I didn’t know airbenders could talk that long without taking a breath. And two: the Avatar’s girlfriend is jealous of my hair. Mother would be proud.”

“This is fun for you, isn’t it?”

“Sadly, yes. Don’t judge me.”
